31st DGI-Online-Conference
The annual conference of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Informationswissenschaft und Informationspraxis e. V. (DGI) was held in Hall 4.2!
The conference took place in hall 4.2, room Dimension, Brillanz and Devise. Main language was German, some lectures were held in English.
The theme of the Conference 2009 was "Generation international - The Future of Information, the Economy and the Profession". Helping us probe and discuss this challenging, yet exciting, theme were experienced and prestigious speakers such as Janice R. Lachance, CEO Special Libraries Association (SLA) who talked about the information industry in the United States, Dr. Ulrich Kampffmeyer who addressed us on Records Management and Jon McLoone from Wolfram Alpha Research who talked about search engines.
Particular attention 2009 was being devoted to our younger colleagues and to this end the DGI was hosting the Young Information Professionals (YIP) Day on Saturday, 17th October. At this special event students, trainees and those taking their first steps into professional life were reporting on their projects as well as their experience. A panel discussion consisting of experts from industry and academia was also taking place and gave attendees a chance to exchange their views about jobs, their direction as well as their future in the information sector.
