19th New Delhi World Book Fair
The 30 January to 7 February 2010
Here you find information on the Indian book market and the book fair in New Delhi. Please visit us at the German Collective Stand. Numerous German publishing houses present their programme, selected book collections invite you to browse through them. Our colleagues are happy to offer you any advise if you wish to become an exhibitor at the Frankfurt Book Fair in October.
The fair
The New Delhi World Book Fair is the biggest international book fair on the Indian subcontinent. It is held every two years and attracts more than a million visitors. In 2008, 1,343 exhibitors from 23 countries were represented at the event.
The fair is a central meeting place for publishers, booksellers and printers, as well as authors and translators from India and neighbouring countries. In 2010, we are placing particular emphasis on India. This means that in conjunction with the German Collective Stand presentation, there are plans for special interest events as well as targeted matchmaking sessions to be organised in close cooperation with the German Book Office (GBO) in New Delhi. The aim is to introduce Germany as an active business and economic partner and to intensify business relations.
The market
India ranks second after China in the listing of the most attractive investment targets worldwide. With its approx. 10 million students and a steadily expanding middle class, it offers a high educational potential and presents a diverse and active publishing scene. At the same time, a new generation of publishers is emerging, with considerable interest in post-entry career training and in achieving greater professionalism in order to be able to operate internationally.
Germany is held in high esteem above all in the areas of education, science and technology. Demand for titles includes those from the fields of medicine, business and management, German as a Foreign Language and children’s books. India is the only country in which books are published in about 22 languages, with English accounting for the most important share at approx. 40 per cent.
Your gain as a visitor
The attractively designed German Collective Stand facilitates the appropriate presentation of their products by both big and smaller publishing companies alike.
Given its size and popularity, the New Delhi Book Fair provides you with an outstanding opportunity to obtain an overview of the Indian book and publishing scene, to set up new, interesting contacts or to reinforce existing business contacts.
If you are also interested in taking part as an exhibitor at the Frankfurt Book Fair or attending as a trade visitor, we are delighted to provide you with detailed information. Just ask us!
