The Book Fair 2013 has to come to an end
and on the final fair day "Brazil - A land full of voices" met "Finnland. Cool" at the traditional Guest Roll handover ceremony. We thank Brazil for a great Book Fair 2013 and look forward to Finland.
After a brilliant performance as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair, there is still much to discover about Brazil. More than 90 Brazilian authors came to Germany throughout the Guest of Honour year and gave a lively presentation of the literary diversity of Brazil. With 650 events around the Book Fair this year's Guest of Honour set a new record. After the Book Fair there are still some exhibitions and events around Brazil taking place.
"Brazil - A land full of voices" - with this motto our Guest of Honour presented itself at the Frankfurt Book Fair from 9 - 13 October 2013.
In the Brazilian Pavilion, designed by the prominent designer duo Daniela Thomas and Felipe Tassara, a tribute to paper and literature awaited the visitors. Ornate walls made of cardboard, film installations and a wide event program with readings, discussions and music attracted thousands of visitors each day. The international book exhibition "Books on Brazil" showed 1000 titles from 302 publishers and 23 countries.
More than 150 Brazilian publishers participated at the 711 sqm large collective stand in hall 5.1.
A Brazilian program was presented throughout the Book Fair, including the Comic Center, Gourmet Gallery, LitCamLive and the Forum Education.
More information can be found in the press kits on the Guest of Honour.
This film is based on the Brazilian text on the Guest Scroll, which New Zealand handed over to the next Guest of Honour, Brazil, at a ceremony on 14 October 2012. The Guest Scroll is an artwork specially created for the Frankfurt Book Fair, which grows with each passing year. Adorned with literary quotations chosen to represent the literature of the next Guest of Honour of the Book Fair, this is traditionally passed on from one Guest of Honour to the next on the final day of the Fair.
