This is where we give you detailed information on international book markets all year round.
We provide exhibitors and trade visitors with access to the international book markets in a variety of ways. A great many events during the Franfkurt Book Fair enable you to network with new business partners. So Business Breakfasts i.e. include market presentations with leading experts from the industry.
A volume of around 204 million US $ is calculated for the year.
There is no separate compilation or entry for the book trade in the statistics for industrial production and domestic trade. For its part, the Egyptian Publishers’ Association does not record any data either. Sales can only estimated indirectly on the basis of information from the print industry, private household expenditure and in connection with government spending.
We made a detailed book market study on Egypt. You may purchase the study in English language at a price of 350 €. Finde more details on Book Market Studies.

Information on the Belarus book market.
The publishing market in Belarus is developing both in the private and public sector. In the last 10 years, 38% of the currently existing private publishers and 29% of current state publishing houses were established.
Sales
The annual turnover of non-state publishing houses is much lower than state publishers. More than half of the non-state publishers’ turnover does not exceed 100 000 EUR, while the turnover of 57% of the state publishing houses ranges from 400 000 EUR to EUR 2 million per year. However, the private publishing houses have announced plans to increase turnover next year.
Profile
The main profile of most publishers is academic and popular non-fiction. The significant part in the profile of public publishing houses is educational literature for schools (textbooks), while the non-state publishing houses are focused on fiction and belletristic literature.
In the case of both public and private publishers, books make up majority of publications. On average, the share of books in state publishing houses amounts to 55.8%, and in private – 66.2%. A large share of production in state publishing houses comprises magazines (52.4%) and reference publications (including handbooks, guides, etc. - 31.5%). For non-state publishers the production of reference books ranks second (41.4%), followed by magazines (24%).

The Brazilian publishing industry is already preparing for its Guest of Honour appearance in Frankfurt in 2013.
Interest from publishers is tremendous and initial preparations are underway. “For Brazil, this second Guest of Honour appearance in Frankfurt represents a
great opportunity”, said Rosely Boschini, president of the CBL. “Our goal is to show the international publishing world the potential of our market and the high quality of our industry’s products. It will be a great honour for us to do so in Frankfurt in 2013.” The Brazilian publishers association CBL has renewed its partnership with the Brazilian export promotion agency APEX for another two years. This secures Brazil’s continued extensive, professional participation at the book fairs in Frankfurt, Bologna and Guadalajara. APEX has
already taken successful measures to organise and professionalise Brazil’s rights trade with foreign countries. Thus Brazil is fully prepared for 2013.

Documentation of title production depends primarily on the Jordanian National Bibliography as issued annually by the National Library
Statistics compiled by UNESCO and ALESCO for book production in Jordan are extremely incomplete and therefore unreliable. At the beginning of the nineties, production was running at just over 400 titles per annum and had more than doubled by 2004 (1,093 titles were published in 2002). The main language is Arabic, only 5% of books are in a foreign language.

Documentation of title production depends primarily on Moroccan National Bibliography: With the private Fondation du Roi Abdulaziz Al Saoud in Casablanca also being important for records and analysis.
The UNESCO and ALESCO statistics on Moroccan book production are not reliable. The number of published titles per annum increased from 329 in 1990 to 1,070 in 2004. The biggest growth rates coming from Arabic-language publications.

Book production: State and private
Fewer government contracts: Book production has been declining steadily in Mexico since 2007. This can also be attributed to a reduction in state book production. In 2009, a total of 319.18 million copies were printed in the state and private sectors. Sixty per cent of the state-produced books (197 million copies) were provided to primary schools free of charge.
Private publishers on behalf of the state: Private commercial publishers printed 121.8 million books. Of these, 27.7 % (33.7 million) were produced for the state and for various programmes that supply schools and libraries.
Fewer titles, fewer copies: In 2009, 224 private publishers released 18,618 titles (2008: 20,242; 2007: 20,300). The number of copies printed also decreased in comparison to the previous year (2009: 121,8 Mio.; 2008: 125,3 Mio.; 2007: 129,3 Mio.).
More new releases nonetheless: Thirty-three per cent of all the titles published in 2009 were new releases. That’s 2 percentage points higher than in 2007, although the total number of new releases decreased by 3.2% (2009: 6,162 titles; 2008: 6,369; 2007: 6,039). Taking into account the total number of copies of new titles released, there was actually a decline of 24%. As a result, the percentage of reprints increased by 9% (2009: 67%; 2008: 58%).

The current situation of the book market of the Netherlands shows strong consolidation efforts and sustained acquisitions on the part of the larger publishing groups.
Despite this trend, a large number of small, independent publishers still manage to maintain a presence in the Dutch market. The economic crisis of 2008 and 2009 had little noticable effect. Sales figures only started to decline in 2010.

In rights and licence purchases from German publishing companies, the rising trend continues for Poland
In general, it can be seen that prospects are very good. Successful cooperation between Polish and German representatives, as well as keen activity from cultural institutes in the area of translation funding (see: Book Market Contact Office in Warsaw) justify the hope that rights and licence sales will flourish.

After the Swedish book industry had enjoyed a ten year period of continuous growth from 1997 onwards, the upward trend came to an abrupt end in 2008.
The industry suffered a setback, but after initially pessimistic forecasts for 2010, experts are now assuming that the lowest point is in the past and that the outcome for 2010 will again show a small plus.

Documentation of title production depends primarily on the figures produced since 1984 by the Syrian National Bibliography.
Having generally ceased to compile bibliographic data on publications, UNESCO has no reliable earlier data on Syria either. The ALESCO regional data are highly incomplete and therefore of no use. Syrian book production rose to 1,800 titles per annum through to 2000, but has declined again since then, with a total of 1,138 titles in 2004.

The data featured in the study "Comercio Interior del Libro en España 2009" incorporates figures from all private Spanish publishers that are members of a trade association.
n 2009, 889 Spanish publishers met these criteria. That’s around 53% of the 1,677 publishers that have registered an ISBN. But the full number of ISBN registrants includes any private company that has published at least one book. Thus it is safe to assume that the associations represent a majority of publishers that publish actively and continuously.
In 2009, the book industry was impacted by fallout from the severe financial crisis in Spain. Total domestic turnover from book sales totalled 3,109.58 million euros. After the industry experienced asteady increase in sales over the last few years (2008: 3,185.5 million euros; 2007: 3,123.17; 2006: 3,014 million euros), it reported a 2.4% decline in sales for the first time in 2009. However, one
positive development is evident in the rights and licensing business. From 2008 to 2009, sales in this segment of the business increased by 0.9%. Profits from the sale of copyrights more than quadrupled in one year (139 million euros 2009 compared to 33.6 million euros in 2008).
