Information on the Indian book market.
Total sales in 2004 were approx. 1.4 billion euros. Approx. 70,000 titles were produced per annum. Only 40% of these books have ISBN numbers. 25 -30% in English language.
Losses 2003: 28 million euros (estimate of the International Intellectual Property Alliance). 80 million euros/20 % of total sales (estimate of the Indian book industry). There are laws against book piracy but measures (like razzias) are insufficient.
