On August 20th, she was arrested and jailed for pretrial detention. She now finds herself imprisoned due to claims that she is affiliated with the PKK (Kurdish Workers’ Party), which is deemed a terrorist organization by several countries. None of her readers or friends believe this to be true. She has consistently and tirelessly been a voice for peace in Turkey. Her only “crime” has been that she has used her “freedom of speech” to attract attention to injustice, because her conscience will not allow her to remain silent. The French agency, Agence littéraire Astier-Pécher, which has been representing Aslı Erdoğan for seven years, is organising a SOLIDARITY MEETING. Her publishers, translators, some writers and close friends, representatives of the Pen Club and other associations, will be there to firmly call and sign a joint declaration for her release.
