How Technology Can Facilitate Access to Culture and Empower Audiences
Emerging technologies and the internet provide tools for digital surveillance, privacy violations and the creation of “fake“ content. They run the risk of perpetuating power structures, societal inequalities and biases, and through normalization and computer generated imagination constantly challenge our perception of reality. But new technologies also have the potential to democratize knowledge, education and culture. They give museums and cultural institutions the opportunity to make their collections and content available for free to a wide audience, make them more inclusive and accessible, provide artists and developers as well as researchers and all other actors in the cultural and creative sectors with open source tools and information and allow them to connect and exchange ideas.
