Small press authors, publishers, and translators discuss innovation in Canadian-German translation

Canada and Germany both share a rich transatlantic tradition of small presses supporting emerging authors in their original languages and in translation, and the Frankfurt International Book Fair has played an important role in bringing these small presses together. At Frankfurt Book Fairs 2020 and 2021, several Canadian authors originally published by Guernica Editions (Toronto) will see their books launched in German translation. What role can German small presses play in making Canadian writers known in Germany? What are the considerations made by small presses when choosing to present a Canadian author in German translation? Is contemporary Canada with its large pool of immigrant writers, a new crossroads for cross-cultural literature? Three of the four Canadian authors are immigrants.
