How do we write history today?

In times of political change, fake news is spreading, and with the increase of social networks the fourth power loses its significance. Everyone promotes their own story and more than a few manage to increase their votes. History is rewritten. The witnesses to hard times in the past are decreasing, and the new generations lose contact with the real referents. What role do writers play in this context? To what extent are they understood as chroniclers? Who is the target reader?
