On Thursday, October 18, Persian-Israeli singer and actress Liraz will perform live with her band from Tel Aviv at the Frankfurt Book Fair. In the Frankfurt Pavilion, the central cultural-political stage of the fair, she will sing songs full of longing and hope in Farsi, the language of her ancestors. Like the vast majority of Persian Jews, Liraz's parents fled the Iranian Revolution and settled in Israel. Next to her successful career as an actress, Liraz aims to “tear down the walls of silence” with her music, under which, as she says, Iranian women have been suffering since the Islamist revolution. With her commitment to the rights of women and minorities in Iran, she became an icon of its freedom movement.
