Tradition and Modern Life. Sámi Literature for Children and Young Adults

With authors Máret Ánne Sara and Karen Anne Buljo.

Welcome to this conversation on Sámi Literature for children and young adults with Máret Ánne Sara and Karen Anne Buljo! Sámi literature for a younger audience is often inspired by tradition, myth and folklore. At the same time it addresses young readers today. How does new Sámi literature for young readers balance tradition and modern life? Moderated by Dina Roll-Hansen (NORLA).

Máret Ánne Sara (1983) is a Sami artist and writer. In 2014 she was nominated for the Nordic Council Children and Youth Literature Prize for her debut YA novel In between Worlds.

Karen Anne Buljo is a Sámi author and yoiker, nominated for the 2019 Nordic Council Children and Youth Literature Prize for her poems Šiellaspeajal (The icons in the mirror).
