The Invitation Programme for Publishers from Countries with developing Book Industries.

The 2019 Invitation Programme will take place from 10 until 21 October 2019.

The Invitation Programme offers small independent publishing companies from Africa, the Arab world, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean the chance to participate in the world's biggest book fair.

For publishing companies from these regions, globalisation is a two-edged sword. Access to the world market seems easier thanks to all-pervasive communications. At the same time, the advance of new conglomerates makes it harder to break into the market. The main goal of the Frankfurter Buchmesse Invitation Programme is to guarantee the presence of a select group of around 20 publishing houses at the industry's biggest get-together.
The guest publishers attend a two-and-a-half-day seminar before the Book Fair, which provides wide-ranging information on the German book market and international publishing.

The programme begins the week before Frankfurter Buchmesse opens its doors and ends on Sunday.

Seminar

As in past years, the guest publishers will attend a two-and-a-half-day seminar before the book fair begins, which not only prepares them for the event but also provides them with wide-ranging information on the German book market. As a discussion forum, the seminar gives them the opportunity to talk to experienced speakers from the industry on topics such as international sales, marketing, rights and licensing as well as book design.

Duration, Preparation and Activities

What's more, further activities are scheduled during the book fair. In preparation for the programme, activities may even take place even before the official beginning of the programme. Guests are additionally expected to participate throughout this process.

Travel, accommodation and exhibition stand expenses covered.

Carefully selected guests from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Arab world, the Caribbean and Central and Eastern Europe not only receive travel expenses and accommodation but also always enjoy the use of an exhibition stand at no charge. Funding is provided jointly by Frankfurter Buchmesse and the German Federal Foreign Office.

Eligibility

The programme is aimed at small-scale, independent publishers from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Arab world, the Caribbean, and Central and Eastern Europe. Proficiency in English is required.
