Authors and publishing houses - 34 exhibitors coming from 19 African countries will be present in Frankfurt this year: Ethiopia, Angola, Benin, Burundi, Ivory Coast, Gabun, Ghana, Guinea, Cameroun, Congo, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Nigeria, Ruanda, Senegal, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Togo. During the trade visitor days (10 -14 October 2018) more than 20 events will take place at different locations. An own stage, organised by the Alliance Culturelle Africaine (ACA), with a programme adressing trade visitors as well as visitors during the weekend, fosters the international networking and aims at reaching new readers with African literature.
The programme starts on Wednesday, 10 October 2018, with an event which evokes the historical links between Frankfurter Buchmesse and the African literature industry since 1980. In 1980, the event „Africa, a continent asserts its identity“ took place at Frankfurter Buchmesse and substantially led to the foundation of the association Litprom. Further contributors are international organisations which support the African publishing industry, e.g. the Association pour le Développement de l'Education en Afrique (ADEA)/World Book Alliance, the International Publishers Association and the African Publishers Network (Apnet). Further events put the spotlight on international funding and promotion programmes for the African publishing industry, the Afrikanischen child book market, e-commerce for African publishers and the postcolonial heritage. All events can be found in the online event calendar of Frankfurter Buchmesse.
