Joshua Wong, born in 1996, is the face of the protest movement in Hong Kong. He has been politically active since the age of 14 when he founded Scholarism and successfully protested against the introduction of Chinese National Education in Hong Kong schools. He played a leading role in the Umbrella Revolution, which garnered him a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018. TIME, Fortune, and Forbes declared him one of the most influential minds in the world. He was Secretary General of Demosisto, a party working towards self-government in Hong Kong that has since been dissolved under China's security law. Joshua Wong has been arrested several times by the Chinese state for his protests and has served over 100 days in prison. His first book outside Hong Kong, Unfree Speech, was published in 2020.
