Scottish Summit: Irvine Welsh & John Niven live
For the first time, the two giants of Scottish literature will appear together on German soil. Irvine Welsh has been one of the most important contemporary British authors since his début novel Trainspotting and Danny Boyle's film adaptation have become classics of popular culture. In his new novel "The Pants of the Dead" he ends the Trainspotting series with a tremendous bang. In Great Britain, the novel stormed to number 1 on the bestseller lists, and the response in Germany is also enormous. Once again Renton, Begbie, Sick Boy, and Spud meet up in Edinburgh. Everything seems harmonious at first, but the peaceful appearance is deceptive. John Niven comes from the Glasgow area. He made his global breakthrough with the novel "Kill Your Friends", a bitter satire on the music industry. His new novel "The F*ck-it List" is a sharp-tongued satirical thriller on America in times of Trump – an abysmal look into our near future.
The evening will be moderated by Thorsten Nagelschmidt, novelist and singer/guitarist in the punk band Muff Potter, along with Ulrich Sonnenschein, freelance editor, author and presenter primarily in the cultural editorial department of Hessischer Rundfunk.
