After a career in the national ski team of Yugoslavia, Ana Roš studied diplomacy and international science. She worked for the European Union before swapping the international political floor with kitchen in her native country 20 years ago. Together with her husband, the sommelier Valter Kramar, she took over the former home-style inn owned by her in-laws called Hiša Franko in Kobarid, a village in an enchanted Alpine valley near the border with Italy.
She learned the craft of cooking completely autodidactically. She gained international fame through an episode about her culinary art in the TV series Chef’s Table on Netflix. She was named “Best Female Chef in the World 2017” and most recently earned two Michelin stars for Hiša Franko in 2020.
