Review: The Conferences 2018
In 2018, our conferences once again made it clear why Frankfurt is the world’s most important marketplace for print and digital content: publishing experts and decision-makers from the international publishing industry used the conferences to network and discuss, to negotiate and decide, to marvel and to understand.
At the Frankfurt Rights Meeting, the participants were able to discuss the rights and license trade in Poland, Romania and Russia in Q&A rounds with respected speakers such as Irina Prokhorova, publisher at the New Literary Observer. The Audiobook Conference offered visitors insights into various business models such as streaming and bundling as well as the latest international market trends. The topic of Big Data was covered at Steilvorlagen. More than 150 experts discussed the topic under this year’s conference title: Turning Information Complexity into Simplicity. The keynote event of THE MARKETS was the perfect meeting point for those who wanted to find out more about content production. Charlie Redmayne, CEO of HarperCollins UK, spoke about the changes in the industry and what role publishers should play. And while the Frankfurt EDU Conference focused on daycare centres and schools as places of healthy development, the International Congress of University Publishers focused on Open Access and the related developments and changes in academic publishing.
Many thanks to all the participants who once again made Frankfurt the centre of international publishing in 2018: from experts from the publishing sector to partners in the technology sector, to players in the creative industries.
