There is a lively exchange on current developments in the book industry as well as on literary and cultural policy topics. German publishers and institutions also present themselves internationally here. Readings by authors from all regions of the world take place as well.

Weltempfang is a joint project of Frankfurter Buchmesse and the Federal Foreign Office of Germany. It has long served as a space for open dialogue and political discussion. Political and cultural experts will focus on key issues around "Global Citizenship - Democracy and Engagement". Because if current political developments have made anything clear, it's this: "We need to talk."

At Weltempfang, Frankfurter Buchmesse shines a spotlight on urgent and worthwhile topics. What has led to the current trends of populism and anti-political sentiment? How can we develop more positive social perspectives and turn them into reality? Let's find the answers together.

English-speaking and francophone writers as well as authors writing in African languages, which have already published books in Africa, will present their work. Diverse publishing programmes (including independent publishing houses) from Africa will also be live on stage.
The programme starts with a keynote speech which evokes the historical connection between Frankfurter Buchmesse and African literature since 1980. In 1980 the event „Africa, a continent asserts its identity“ took place at the fair and led to the foundation of Litprom, the association of professionals in the fields of publishing, journalism, literary studies and criticism, which serves as a literary agency today.
Further contributors to the programme are international organisations such as the Association pour le Développement de l'Education en Afrique (ADEA)/World Book Alliance, the International Publishers Association (IPA) and the African Publishers Network (Apnet). They will talk about their work in supporting the African publishing industry.
The stage is a result of the coperation between the German-Cameroon publishing house AfricAvenir, Subsahara, African Books Collective and The Bureau international de l’édition française (BIEF).
