The Weltempfang is the centre for politics, literature and translation.

Weltempfang is a joint project of Frankfurter Buchmesse and the Federal Foreign Office of Germany. It has long served as a space for open dialogue and political discussion. Because if current political developments have made anything clear, it's this: "We need to talk."

At Weltempfang, Frankfurter Buchmesse shines a spotlight on urgent and worthwhile topics. What has led to the current trends of populism and anti-political sentiment? How can we develop more positive social perspectives and turn them into reality? Let's find the answers together.

Pavillon des Lettres d'Afrique

English-speaking and francophone writers as well as authors writing in African languages, which have already published books in Africa, presented their work at the new Pavillon "Lettres d’Afrique: changing the narrative.“

Diverse publishing programmes (including independent publishing houses) from Africa were live on stage.
The programme started with a keynote speech which evoked the historical connection between Frankfurter Buchmesse and African literature since 1980. In 1980 the event "Africa, a continent asserts its identity" took place at the fair and led to the foundation of Litprom, the association of professionals in the fields of publishing, journalism, literary studies and criticism, which serves as a literary agency today.
Further contributors to the programme were international organisations such as the Association pour le Développement de l'Education en Afrique (ADEA)/World Book Alliance, the International Publishers Association (IPA) and the African Publishers Network (Apnet). They will talk about their work in supporting the African publishing industry.
The stage was a result of the coperation between the German-Cameroon publishing house AfricAvenir, Subsahara, African Books Collective and The Bureau international de l’édition française (BIEF).
