Frankfurt, 3 October 2017 - Members of the book, film and games industries will meet on the Thursday of the Book Fair (12 October 2017) when the "A Book is a Film is a Game" networking day takes place once again. Successfully launched last year for the first time, this schedule of panel discussions, workshops, matchmaking sessions and networking opportunities will take place in a number of different venues across the fairgrounds. Taking place in the morning session will be a panel discussion looking at the relationship between a book author and a script writer. Expert speakers will be debating this sometimes tricky co-operation. Moderator will be Roshanak Behesht Nedjad, Managing Director of In Good Company GmbH.

Pitching is one of the daily tasks undertaken by rights managers and literary agents, who frequently pitch book titles to sell translation rights worldwide. But how do you pitch for a feature film, or for a VR video game? How difficult is the process and how different is it from the usual system? In the workshop’s first pitching session “based on a true story”, presented by Initiative Film, five books with strong potential for film / VR project adaptation will be presented giving valuable insights into the world of films and games, and how to create new business opportunities. Selected books include "From Beirut to Brandenburg - Dr. Ballouz' Journey" by Amin Ballouz and "The Invisible Difference" by Julie Dachez & Mademoiselle Caroline. In the second pitching session 5 case studies from the Kids & YA sector will be presented.
Following each of the pitching sessions there will be an opportunity for the rights holders and film producers to get together to discuss which books might possibly end up on the big screen.

Award-winning movie "Elle" by director Paul Verhoeven (2016) with Isabelle Huppert based on the novel "Oh..." by Philippe Djian. "Elle" won the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The movie is shown in French with German subtitles.

In the afternoon there will be an exciting opportunity, via prescheduled meetings, for rights holders to meet 15 film producers to discuss the screen potential of key books on their lists. There will be five producers from France, five from the Netherlands, and five from Germany.

The networking day will conclude with a cocktail session where rights holders and producers will be able to share information about their markets and discuss the potential of cross-genre adaptations.
