Beyond the cover. Exploring the Future of the Book

Micro-Conference I 2.00-4.00 pm THE ARTS+ Stage

Print is not dead, but most exciting when complemented by, paired or in sync with other (interactive) media and ways of creative expression. This micro-conference brings together pioneers who challenge the frames, formats and conventions of traditional publishing and set a new course for both print and digital by experimenting with hybrid forms and working across disciplines, sectors and materialities. While their projects are artistic explorations off the market, they show that strategy in a digital world does not necessarily mean digital strategy, and inspire not only general reflections on the role, limits and potentials of publishing and the written word, but also business opportunities beyond the book.

Power to the people. How technology can facilitate access to culture and empower audiences

Micro-conference I 2.00-4.00 pm I THE ARTS+/B3 Stage

Emerging technologies and the internet provide tools for digital surveillance, privacy violations and the creation and dissemination of “fake“ content. They run the risk of perpetuating power structures, societal inequalities and biases, and through hyper normalization and computer generated imagination constantly challenge our perception and notions of authenticity and reality. But new technologies also have the potential to democratize knowledge, education and culture. They give museums and cultural institutions the opportunity to make their collections and content available for free to a wide audience, make them more inclusive and accessible, provide artists and developers as well as researchers and all other actors in the cultural and creative sectors with open source tools and information and allow them to connect and exchange ideas.
