Networking and professional programme for publishers from Southeast Europe and Türkiye

The application deadline has expired.

With a focus on industry-relevant topics, Let's Talk! is the motto of a successful networking and professional programme for publishers which has been held in Athens and online since 2020. This year's programme will take place on 20 and 21 September 2023 in person, in Athens.

Publishers and agencies from Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Türkiye could apply until 25 June 2023 for the 2023 edition.

Financially supported by the German Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, Let's Talk! is curated and organised by Frankfurter Buchmesse GmbH in cooperation with Goethe-Institut Athens and the Hellenic Foundation for Culture.

Requirements for participation

Let’s Talk! is open to publishers as well as rights and licensing managers from Southeast European and Turkish publishing houses with several years of experience in the industry and a good command of English.

Programme

6 September: from 13:00 to 15:00 (Central European Time): Online session for all participants to get to know each other.

19 September: Arrival in Athens of participants from Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Türkiye.

20 September: Moderated panel discussion on international publishing strategy with guest speakers from Germany, Southeast Europe and Turkey, followed by publishers' meetings with pre-arranged individual appointments at Goethe-Institut Athens. Networking dinner in the evening.

21 September: Publishers meeting in the morning with pre-arranged individual appointments at Goethe-Institut Athens. The programme ends around midday.

The programme will be held in English and the number of participants is limited to 40.

    Let's Talk! offers selected publishers from Germany, Southeast Europe and Türkiye an exclusive platform to network with each other across national borders.

  • Knowledge transfer and training

    Industry experts from Germany, Southeast Europe and Türkiye share their experiences and best practices with the aim of furthering their professional expertise.
  • Cultural exchange

    Let's Talk! aims to support and promote dialogue between Germany and the countries of Southeast Europe and Türkiye, as well as within the region itself.
  • Continuity

    By continuing and expanding on the specialist programme series Let's Talk!, the organisers are building on a successful, transnational cooperation established in Thessaloniki 2021, when German-language countries were Guest of Honour there.
  • Freedom of expression

    Multilateral meetings like Let's Talk! open up a space for free expression and strengthen the work of liberal publishers, by connecting them with colleagues from other countries.

Let’s Talk! is aimed at publishers and agencies from Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Türkiye.

Publishers as well as rights and licensing managers from Southeast European and Turkish publishing houses with several years of experience in the industry and a good command of English are eligible to apply.

This year’s programme will take place from 19 to 21 September 2023 at Goethe-Institute in Athens (Omirou 14-16, 106 72 Athens, Greece).

A maximum of 40 participants will be selected from Albania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Türkiye. The selected participants will be informed in July.

Thanks to the financial support of the Federal Foreign Office, for the selected publishers two nights’ hotel accommodation in Athens, a travel allowance and meals will be covered.
