The Frankfurt Invitation Programme
For publishers from countries with developing book industries (10th to 20th October 2024)
Thanks to the Frankfurt Invitation Programme, publishers from Africa, Asia, the Arab world, Latin America, and the Caribbean attend the Frankfurter Buchmesse in Germany every year. The aim of the project is to enable publishers from developing book nations to participate in the biggest industry meeting, so that they can form networks and act in the book market worldwide in medium and long term.
Globalisation continues to be an ambivalent undertaking for many publishers from these regions, because although access to the world market is easier than ever for many market players through borderless communication, it is a great challenge for smaller, mostly independent companies to operate on international terrain.
The publisher programme, founded in the 1970s, is supported by the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, and curated and organised by Frankfurter Buchmesse GmbH.

Naqesh was founded in Rojava, Syria in 2019. Naqesh (Nexş/Neqş/نقش), is a common word between the Kurdish and Arabic languages, and one of its meanings is engraving. Humans have started writing and expressing their opinions and perceptions through inscriptions. For Naqesh translations from various languages into Kurdish and Arabic have a great importance, because a translation can be an important gateway to convergence between cultures, especially in times of wars and divergence between people, especially in the Middle East. Based on the idea that there should exist translations between Kurdish and Arabic, the publishing house is translating, for example, the works of the Iraqi writer Bachtyar Ali, because its content can open new horizons to readers from abroad. The publishing house has exclusive rights to translate some books into Kurdish and Arabic, e.g. "The Daughter of Kobani" by Gayle Tzmach Lemmon and "Ataturk in The Nazi Imagination" by Stefan Ihrig.

About the programme
Frankfurt Invitation Programme 2024
Apply now through April 30, 2024 for the Frankfurt Invitation Programme.
If you have any queries, please email invitationprogramme@buchmesse.de.
This is what former participants say about the programmes
It was an incredible experience being part of the Frankfurt Invitation Programme 2023.
From the insightful online sessions leading up to our arrival in Frankfurt to the engaging seminars and discussions on various professional topics with both my fellow participants and the experienced coaches we had the chance to meet, the comprehensive program provided a valuable overview of the German book market. The matchmaking sessions and individual coaching during the fair were particularly beneficial for me as a publisher.
As a startup publisher for children, born in the midst of difficulties and challenges, the Frankfurt Book Fair was like a glimmer of hope in the midst of chaos. It opened my eyes to a global publishing world, and thanks to the matchmaking program that served as my compass, it brought clarity, focus, and purpose to my journey.
Participating in the Frankfurt Invitation Programme was a great opportunity for me to get to know closely the wide world of publishing. The participation and support I received from the programme and the wonderful people running the program was an introduction to well-established publishing houses and agencies with extensive work, which enabled me to expand my work.
Taking part in the Invitation Programme of the Frankfurter Buchmesse was a turning point for Bebel Books - a 10 year old independent publisher from Brazil.
Taking part in the Invitation Programme in the 75th anniversary year of Frankfurter Buchmesse, was an incredible experience. Meeting other publishers and sharing stories about our successes, similarities, and difficulties has been a real eye-opener.
Marifé Boix Garcia will be pleased to provide advice.
