Weltempfang - the centre for politics, literature and translation provides answers to current social questions and debates.

International events at Weltempfang, the 2020 LiBeraturpreis and the African Perspectives symposium

This year’s Weltempfang – Frankfurter Buchmesse’s centre for politics, literature and translation – is dedicated to the topic “Europe – Connecting Cultures”. The programme includes highly topical issues, such as the role of culture, literature and politics in the coronavirus crisis, and debates about displacement, migration and racism. The Weltempfang events will be broadcast each day of the fair at and on Frankfurter Buchmesse's YouTube channel. The opening event will take place on Wednesday, 14 October at 5.30 pm, on the ARD Book Fair Stage in the Festhalle.

Frankfurter Buchmesse’s first digital edition of its socio-political stage will focus on the topic “Europe – connecting cultures”. Livestreaming from 14 to 18 October 2020.

Anthropocene – the last age?

Frankfurter Buchmesse 2020 – Special Edition: online and in the city of Frankfurt, but without traditional on-site exhibition

Frankfurter Buchmesse (14-18 October 2020) will take place this year: with an extensive digital programme for publishing professionals, exciting online events at BOOKFEST digital for an international readership, as well as live events in Frankfurt on the ARD Book Fair Stage in the Festhalle and some 80 events as part of BOOKFEST city. The book fair’s traditional on-site exhibition is being cancelled this year due to the corona pandemic, since current travel restrictions would prevent numerous country stands from being realised as planned. In addition, the quarantine requirements that will be enforced on 1 October 2020 make it virtually impossible for European exhibitors and trade visitors to participate.

Weltempfang Satellites: Georgian literature, global citizenship and responsibility

What significance does homeland have for writers, and is its loss trauma or inspiration? How can the concept of global citizenship - a world society with universally valid rights and duties for its "citizens of the world" be lived? Juergen Boos, Director of Frankfurter Buchmesse, will discuss these questions with his guests in the "Weltempfang Satellite" series of talks.
