A day in July, the air is thick with heat. In the evening, some are still hanging out on the square made of concrete while others are already partying. A classic summer evening, before suddenly the air becomes foggy, the sounds blur and the eyes burn. Chaos. It happens what was bound to happen: arrests, police custody. And Samy, one of them, is shot dead by the police. One drop, one ocean - too much.

\"She speaks from the soul of those who are rarely heard, those who are exposed to arbitrary controls or attacks by police every day. In a very poetic way, she tells how everyday racism, exclusion and police arbitrariness breed violence in the banlieues.\"

\"Diallo's anger, her love for the characters, they shape this novel. A brilliant counter-narrative to the cliché of frustrated suburban youth.\" Claudia Kuhland in ttt (titel, thesen, temperamente 20.8.2023)
