Serhiy Zhadan, the Ukrainian writer, musician and Peace Prize winner of the German Book Trade, is taking over the Instagram account of Frankfurter Buchmesse @buchmesse. The Instagram Takeover will take place during the Freedom of Expression Week from 3-5 May 2023. Then Serhiy Zhadan will report in personal posts from his everyday life shaped by the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. About Serhiy Zhadan
The author, who was born in the Luhansk region, is one of the most important voices in contemporary Ukrainian literature. Since the 1990s, he has left his mark on Kharkiv's cultural scene, organises literary and music festivals and publishes novels, poems, stories and essays. His work has been translated into numerous languages. Serhej Zhadan gives an almost documentary account of surviving the war in the book "Himmel über Kharkiw" (Sky over Kharkiv). Since the occupation of Crimea in 2014, Zhadan has also been involved with social and cultural projects in partially occupied eastern Ukraine. Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine at the end of February 2022, he has been providing increased humanitarian aid.
