Not a fairy tale: How the book fair red carpets once ended up at the Christmas market
Stand construction, hall design, signage: as organisers of Frankfurter Buchmesse, we cannot (yet) do without materials that must be disposed of once the fair is over. At the same time, it is possible to reuse materials sensibly. That is one of the findings from the pilot project that Frankfurter Buchmesse carried out this year with the Leipzig-based company TRASH GALORE. "We mediate not only between two languages, but also between two cultures"
As a sign language interpreter, Katharina Nickel and her colleague Beate Neumann will once again be working for us at this year's Frankfurter Buchmesse and will be translating numerous events into sign language during the weekend of the fair. We wanted to find out more about the interpreting profession and her work at events.

Every book counts
Slovenia is the Guest of Honour of the 75th Frankfurter Buchmesse (18-22 October 2023), showcasing its literature and culture under the motto “Honeycomb of Words”. The accompanying cultural programme in museums and other cultural institutions all over Germany has already started. At the moment the Slovenian Guest of Honour team is preparing Slovenia’s presentation at the book fair in October. We have been in touch with Katja Stergar, Director of the Slovenian Book Agency and head of the Guest of Honour project, and asked her to give us some insight into the current situation in Slovenia.
