Lina Atfah

Born 1989 in Salamiyah, Syria, Lina Atfah studied Arabic Literature in Damascus. She has written for various newspapers and cultural magazines and published a book of poetry entitled “Am Rande der Rettung” (On the Edge of Salvation). As an author who has dealt with social and political issues from the very beginning, Lina Atfah increasingly came into conflict with the Assad regime. In 2017, she participated in a translation workshop in Edenkoben, Germany, where six Syrian authors worked together with six German authors for one week. In 2018, the translated texts were published in the anthology “Deine Angst – dein Paradies” (Your Fear – Your Paradise). After a nomination by Nino Haratishvili, she received the Little Hertha Koenig Prize in 2017. In 2019, her first book of poetry in German was published by Pendragon Verlag with the title "Das Buch von der fehlenden Ankunft" (The Book of Non-Arrival). Lina Atfah has lived in Wanne-Eickel, Germany, since 2014.
