Frankfurt, 11 October 2018 - The Frankfurter Buchmesse Film Awards were presented today in a festive ceremony on the THE ARTS+ Runway. The awards were presented in three categories "Best Illustrated Book on Film", "Best International Litarary Adaptation for Children or Young Adults" and "Best International Literary Adaptation".

The winners in the individual categories at a glance:

Best International Literary Adaptation
"INTRIGO - DEATH OF AN AUTHOR", based on the novels by Håkan Nesser, directed by Daniel Alfredson

Best International Literary Adaptation for Children or Young Adults
Romy's Salon (NL), directed by Mischa Kamp

Best Illustrated Book on Film
"Cinemaps: An Atlas of 35 Great Movies" (Quirk Books)

In the category "Best Illustrated Book on Film", which was awarded together with the MGIP Motovun Group of International Publishers, this year, there were also two runners-up: "Marilyn Monroe 50 sessions" (Knesebeck Verlag) and "Frankenstein - The First Two Hundred Years" (Reel Art Press).

In addition, there was a "Special Recognition" for the cartoon series "Hilda", which had just been launched on Netfilx. Due to its genre, "Hilda" was not comparable to other films in the field of children and youth, but it impressed the jury in every respect.

Jury President Ellen Harrington said about the selection of the winners: "This year’s competition was extremely compelling and highly varied - with a broad range of countries, film genres and very diverse source material represented. These filmmakers impressed the Jury with their exceptional production values and fidelity to their source material. In particular, with the Best Adaptation for Children and Young Adults, we were pleased to note that all of the protagonists were compelling characters, who happen to be girls or young women, and many of the directors and authors on whose work these films were based are also women. Our Jury elected to add an additional prize for the animated short-form series Hilda, and award the Feature Film Prize to Romy's Salon, an exceptionally well-told and modern coming of age story."
