For the 75th time, Frankfurter Buchmesse (18 - 22 October 2023) will open its doors in October and celebrate hundreds of stories and the authors behind them. Among those taking part are Marc-Uwe Kling, Cornelia Funke, Deborah Feldman, Rafik Schami and Christopher Clark. Tickets for public and trade visitors are now available online.

Every book fair is different. To ensure you can keep track of it all, we’ve assembled the most important information here. 

Like no other happening in the publishing industry, Frankfurter Buchmesse leads the way in activating global networks, opening up future markets and putting both sector-specific and socio-political issues on the agenda. That will be truer than ever in 2020, the year of corona, as demonstrated by the fair’s thousands of digital exhibitors from approximately 85 countries (as of 20 September 2020). TAlong with this, the book fair will offer ca. 70 hours of professional programme with acclaimed guests, including James Daunt, Ananth Padmanabhan and Jenny Fry and will be a celebration of literature online and in Frankfurt with Karin Slaughter, Elizabeth Gilbert, Irvine Welsh and many more. Booksellers from all over the world can now apply to participate in the new digital programme Frankfurt International Booksellers offered by Frankfurter Buchmesse (14–18 October 2020). Organised by Frankfurter Buchmesse with financial support from Germany’s Federal Foreign Office, the programme is designed for booksellers who stock foreign-language titles in their bookshops. Applications being accepted until 28 September 2020.

The 71st Frankfurter Buchmesse ended today, with a significant increase in the number of visitors of 8.3 percent at the weekend and a rise of 3.7 percent on the trade visitor days. In 2019, the fair welcomed a total of 302,267 visitors, an increase of 6.0 percent compared to last year.

Die 73. Frankfurter Buchmesse (20.-24. Oktober 2021) setzte für die Kulturbranche ein wichtiges Zeichen in der Pandemie. Dank eines umfangreichen Hygienekonzeptes konnte sich das Fach- und das Privatpublikum unter dem Motto “Re:connect” wieder sicher begegnen. 36.000 Fachbesucher*innen aus 105 Ländern und 37.500 Leser*innen aus 85 Ländern hat die Frankfurter Buchmesse 2021 als die erste große Präsenzveranstaltungen der internationalen Buchbranche erreicht. Insgesamt 2013 Unternehmen aus 80 Ländern präsentierten sich in den Hallen, im LitAg, an den neuen Workstations oder als digitale Aussteller*innen im Netz. Insgesamt 2.500 Medienvertreter*innen aus 39 Ländern waren für die diesjährige Frankfurter Buchmesse akkreditiert.

Frankfurter Buchmesse 2020 will take place. A decision to that effect was made today by the Supervisory Board of BBG (Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels Beteiligungsgesellschaft / German Publishers & Booksellers Association). The book fair is planned to be held on the fairgrounds, throughout the city and virtually.

The Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Heritage, announced Canada’s virtual programming for this year’s special edition, in a video message today. The minister was joined virtually by the Honourable Stéphane Dion, Canadian Ambassador to Germany and Special Envoy to the European Union and Europe, Juergen Boos, President of the Frankfurter Buchmesse, and Caroline Fortin, President of Canada FBM2020.
