Anniversary: 75th Frankfurter Buchmesse

In 2023, Frankfurter Buchmesse will take place for the 75th time. What began in 1949 as a small book show in Frankfurt's Paulskirche with the participation of 205 German publishers has established itself over the decades as the largest international book fair. To mark the anniversary, campaigns and events are planned at the Fair, in the city and in the mainstream press and on social media.

Guest of Honour Slovenia "Honeycomb of Words”

This year's guest country Slovenia is characterised not only by its literary landscape but also by a long tradition of beekeeping. It stands for the motto "Honeycomb of Words". The focus is on Slovenian poetry and philosophy as well as the love of nature. As part of the professional programme, there will be insights into the Slovenian book industry. Topics include reading in the age of screens and the importance of deep reading. Visitors will discover the diversity of Slovenian literature with over 70 authors, translators and poets in the Guest of Honour Pavilion (Forum, Level 1).

“Lage der Nation" podcast event live at the fair

Germany's most popular political podcast, "Lage der Nation" (State of the Nation), will take place on 19 October 2023 at 7 p.m. in the Hall Harmonie, Congress Center, Messe Frankfurt. Here, viewers will experience the creation of another podcast episode live on site and meet the hosts Philip Banse and Ulf Buermeyer.

BOOKFEST city 2023

In its anniversary year, the 75th Frankfurter Buchmesse dedicates BOOKFEST city to the bookshops in the Rhine-Main region and the libraries of the city of Frankfurt. The programme of events with international authors will be announced in the next few weeks.

On-site, hybrid and digital: the international professional programme

With the digital networking format The Hof, the first hybrid Frankfurt Rights Meeting, the Publishing Perspectives Forum on site and the digital master classes, trade visitors can use the fair to embrace business opportunities. There will also be talks with industry leaders on topics such as AI, reading promotion, sensitivity reading and diversity and sustainability in publishing. There will also be conferences on children's and youth media, audio books and a Book-to-Screen Day on the Friday of the fair on book adaptations.

New: Trade visitor tickets now include public transport in Frankfurt (RMV).
