My Journey in Discovering my Roots, Family, my Food in Singapore

Sharon Wee, author of “Growing Up in a Nonya Kitchen”, celebrates the power of books as tools of knowledge and understanding. In developing a narrative for her book, she wrote down her family story by interviewing relatives, mining the archives in Singapore and most of all, researching books that documented her Peranakan culture. Books beget books, harvesting new ideas, themes and variations. This is an insight into how a writer explored and honed her creative skills to produce a cookbook memoir that continues to appeal to readers ten years since it was first launched, all with a human touch.
