The spectre of so-called “cancel culture” is particularly prevalent on social media. Much of our dialogue and consequently the forming of our political opinions has shifted to social networks. Excluding voices makes democratic discourse wither, yet strengthening anti-democratic voices damages democracy itself. Between these conflicting currents, how can we support minorities and give them greater visibility while maintaining a respectful tone?
