2021 Nobel Prize winner Abdulrazak Gurnah about his last novel and the challenge to translate.

Abdulrazak Gurnah’s latest novel, Afterlives, takes us back to beginning of the 20th century and the colonial past of German East Africa. The German translation, Nachleben, recently published in September, is the focus of a conversation with the Nobel Prize winner and his translator Eva Bonné: about the novel, about literature from Africa, as well as the challenges and joys of translation.
