Katja Meinecke-Meurer is a trained bookseller and graduated in book studies. She began her editing career at the Gütersloh publishing house. This was followed by various positions at DirectGroup Bertelsmann, including head of non-fiction and bookseller purchasing at Club Bertelsmann and member of the executive board of Wissenmedia Verlag.
She was also the founder of initiale, an agency specializing in literary mediation and media production, from which she retired when she took over as managing director at Tessloff Verlag.
