Philip Banse and Ulf Buermeyer are the two hosts of the podcast Lage der Nation.

Philip has been working as a journalist in Berlin for over 20 years, many of them as a reporter in the capital city studio of Deutschlandradio. In Hamburg, he studied history, politics and Russian. In 2005, he started the podcast "Küchenradio" with friends and subsequently founded the podcast label "Kuechenstud.io", in which the "State of the Nation" appeared in 2016-2020. Philip is mainly concerned with the effects of digitalisation, but also cares about environmental and educational issues.

Ulf is a lawyer and host of the State of the Nation. He has been a judge in Berlin since 2007 and has also been the honorary chairman of the Gesellschaft für Freiheitsrechte e.V. (GFF) since 2015. His other commitments and memberships can be found on his homepage. His academic work focuses on constitutional law and criminal law. He received his doctorate from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt/Main with a thesis on "Informational Self-Determination in the Penal System". In 2013/2014, he studied in the LL.M programme at Columbia Law School in New York City as part of a sabbatical.
