How do we deal with the cultural and often historical diversity of foreign books when rendering them into German?

Books from foreign languages become strangers in a strange land. How do we deal with their cultural and often historical diversity when rendering them into German? How high is our regard for the sense and sensitivities of our time and place? A translator, a critic and a publisher discuss relevance and relativity of today’s world as touchstones.

This is an event of Deutscher Übersetzerfonds DFÜ.

For this event, people with hearing aids or cochlear implants can borrow portable induction loops that connect to the translation system receivers. Translation will be provided into English and German. The induction slings are available at the particular stage without prior registration.
