The panel will discuss the reasons for growth of Slovene translations to German in last five years.

When Slovenia became independent in 1991, there were almost no translations from Slovenian into other languages, with the exception of the South Slavic languages. Fifteen years later, the number grew to 70 translations per year on average, and thirty years later, the average yearly number of translations from Slovenian is 200. Even more, in last five years, German replaced South-Slavic languages as no.1 in the list of most translated languages. What kind of processes were behind this fascinating growth? What kind of skills and competencies are needed in a publishing industry if it wants to increase right exports? Last but not least, how important is Frankfurt bookfair with its GOH program in all this?
