Join us for an enlightening event that bridges the past and the present, transporting you to the 1930s. We delve into the intricate and unconventional life of Sofia Yablonska, an author and photographer whose works have only recently been rediscovered and rightly celebrated. Yablonska's world and life journey, which she recorded in several travelogues and documented in countless photographs and films, took her through Morocco, Egypt, China, Indochina and Polynesia, among other places. Her photographic work elevated her to the rank of the most important Ukrainian ethnographer. The talk with our experts Frank Henseleit, Lydia Lykhach und Claudia Dathe will explore why it's now time for readers beyond Ukrainian borders to uncover Yablonska's literary treasures, gain a deeper understanding of the vibrant and diverse world of Ukrainian literature and what it takes to introduce the cultural productions of a less well-represented culture to a contemporary audience.
