For publishers from countries with developing book industries (12th to 22nd October 2023)

The application deadline has expired.

Thanks to the Frankfurt Invitation Programme, publishers from Africa, Asia, the Arab world, Latin America, and the Caribbean attend the Frankfurter Buchmesse in Germany every year. The aim of the project is to enable publishers from developing book nations to participate in the biggest industry meeting, so that they can form networks and act in the book market worldwide in medium and long term.

Globalisation continues to be an ambivalent undertaking for many publishers from these regions, because although access to the world market is easier than ever for many market players through borderless communication, it is a great challenge for smaller, mostly independent companies to operate on international terrain.

The publisher programme, founded in the 1970s, is supported by the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, and curated and organised by Frankfurter Buchmesse GmbH.

Apply now until 30th April 2023 for the Frankfurt Invitation Programme 2023. It takes place this year from 12 to 22 October.

About the programme

Process

After the participants have been selected in June, online events on various topics will be offered from July onwards.
From Friday to Monday before the fair begins, the publishers take part in a physical seminar programme. This prepares them once again for the fair and at the same time informs them about the German-language book market. The personal exchange with the speakers also offers individual advice.

Eligibility

The programme is aimed at small-scale, independent publishers from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Arab world and the Caribbean.

The requirements for the participation in the Invitation Programme are: interest in international titles, several years of experience in publishing and a good knowledge of the English language (negotiation basis). Active engagement on the part of publishers is always desirable.

Travel, accommodation and exhibition stand expenses covered.

Carefully selected guests from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Arab world and the Caribbean not only receive travel expenses and accommodation but also always enjoy the use of an exhibition stand at no charge. Subject to funding by the German Federal Foreign Office.

Frankfurt Invitation Programme 2023
