The Canadian audacity of children's literature

In Canada, a large majority of creators of children's literature are more than ever presenting innovative and lucid works, which sometimes even dare to break the most persistent taboos. They pride themselves on working with the desire to entertain and to educate, while also never underestimating the intelligence of young people. Who are they? Conversations with Ashley Spires, Nancy Vo and India Desjardins.

Preserving and Protecting languages & cultures

It is through language and cultural expression that we describe our world and our understanding of it. So, every time language is lost, and culture disappears, we lose a unique perspective or view of how we make sense of human existence. These writers passionately believe in the power of language and culture and are determined to ensure that these languages and cultures survive. Conversations with Alain Deneault, Josephine Bacon, Waubgeshig Rice, Diane Carmel Léger, Paul Seesequasis and Marie-Claire Blais, hosted by Kim Thúy.

Canada FBM2021

On 6 October 2016, the Government of Canada signed a contract committing itself to Canada’s participation as the Guest of Honour at the Frankfurter Buchmesse in 2020.

Canadian Heritage is the overall lead for the Government of Canada and responsible for coordinating the engagement of federal, provincial and territorial partners to deliver the Guest of Honour project.

Canada FBM2020 (later Canada FBM 2021) was established as an entity in collaboration with the Association of Canadian Publishers (ACP) and the Association nationale des éditeurs de livres (ANEL) to manage, in French and English, the role and involvement of the Canadian book publishing industry at the Frankfurter Buchmesse. Canada FBM2021 receives financial support from the Department of Canadian Heritage (PCH) and strategic oversight from an independent Board of Directors and works with key partners in government and the industry to deliver the major elements of the GoH program.

A steering committee oversees the GoH project, of which CFBM2021 is a member along with representatives of PCH, the Canada Council for the Arts, Global Affairs Canada, the Embassy of Canada to Germany, and Telefilm Canada.
