Every year, Frankfurter Buchmesse puts the spotlight on a different country as the Guest of Honour. The Guest of Honour country 2025 will be the Philippines, following by the Czech Republic in 2026 and afterwards, in 2027 it will be Chile. 

The Guest of Honour programme always offers exciting new input – with new literary discoveries, along with a diverse programme of art, music, film, theatre, performances and themes that offer new insights into the cultural and social life of each country.

Guest of Honour 2025: the Philippines

The Philippines will be Guest of Honour of the 77th Frankfurter Buchmesse (15-19 October 2025). With more than 110 million citizens, it is the world’s thirteenth largest nation. On its 7,641 islands, 183 different languages are being spoken. The Southeast Asian country will tell its stories. One of the most famous Philippine authors is José Rizal, living in the 19th century, who wrote the quote "Imagination peoples the air". We are excited to get to know the voices of the Philippine literature and culture!

The National Book Development Board actively promotes the spread of Philippine literature in all genres for publishers and translation funding. You can apply from 1 April - 31 May 2024.

Guest of Honour 2026, Czech Republic

The Czech Republic will present itself as Guest of Honour at the 78th book fair (7–11 October 2026). The motto for the country’s presence at the fair is ‘Czechia – A Country on the Coast’. It’s a maritime description of a landlocked Central European country. The cultural and literary perspectives of a country located in the heart of Central Europe will be one focus of the Guest of Honour presence. Look forward to a Guest of Honour programme featuring contemporary literature represented by authors such as Radka Denemarková, Jáchym Topol and Kateřina Tučková.

Book World Prague 2024 takes place from 23 till 26 May 2024 and will focus on German language and literature.

Guest of Honour 2027, Chile

Chile will be the fourth Latin American country to showcase its literature and culture as the Guest of Honour of the 79th book fair (6-10 October 2027). The presentation is being announced by „Through the clear skies of literature“. It hints at the breathtaking, wide and clear star-strewn sky, which can be seen over many regions in Chile. In addition to the works of renowned writers such as Pablo Neruda, Isabel Allende and Roberto Bolaño, new literary voices also take centre stage. Disvcover the Chile’s vivid and young publishing scene as well as Chilean book illustrations, which have been internationally recognised with numerous awards.
