When artificial intelligence (AI) meets culture and society, many ethical questions arise. Who needs psychological counselling: robots or people? Who should define the ethical guidelines for AI? These are some of the topics addressed in the expert talk “Robopsychology and Ethics in AI” with Prof Martina Mara, researcher and robopsychologist at Johannes Kepler University Linz and member of the Austrian Council on Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.

The publishing industry is very aware of the importance and above all the potential of AI – 25% of the publishing houses surveyed have already invested in AI, and there is a clear upward trend. At the trade programme at the 76th Frankfurter Buchmesse (16-20 October 2024) decision-makers and experts from the international publishing industry will be discussing the topics that are currently defining the industry.

In its anniversary year, the 75th Frankfurter Buchmesse (18–22 October 2023) will offer a high-profile programme of cultural and political events – as a forum for literature and for social debate.

Frankfurter Buchmesse 2020 will take place. A decision to that effect was made today by the Supervisory Board of BBG (Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels Beteiligungsgesellschaft / German Publishers & Booksellers Association). The book fair is planned to be held on the fairgrounds, throughout the city and virtually.

Under the motto Re:connect, the international publishing industry will come together at Frankfurter Buchmesse (20-24 October 2021). An all-digital professional programme will take place in the run-up to the book fair week from 11 to 15 October 2021 for the first time. Tickets for Frankfurt Conference go on sale on 22 September 2021. Registration for various formats, which are in part free of charge, is already open.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of Festival Neue Literatur (28-31 March 2019), the first and only festival in New York City to spotlight German-language and U.S. fiction together. The theme of the 2019 festival is “In Memory We Trust”.

Frankfurter Buchmesse (16-20 October 2019) has once again partnered with Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC), a leader in advancing copyright, accelerating knowledge and powering innovation. At Frankfurter Buchmesse, CCC will put a spotlight on topics such as the EU Digital Single Market Copyright Directive and transformative agreements for Open Access publishing.

To mark and celebrate this year's Christopher Street Day and the Philippines as Guest of Honour of the Book Fair in 2025, the Guest of Honour team has compiled a list of recommended queer Filipino literature in English. From graphic novels and fantasy novels to essays and non-fiction, literature encompasses all stories and forms relating to human diversity and love in different forms and stories.
