Orsolya Kalász
Orsolya Kalász (*1964 in Dunaújváros) is a poet and translator. She has been living and working in Berlin for many years.
Kalász translates contemporary Hungarian literature, with a focus on poetry, often in tandem with the authors Monika Rinck or Christian Filips. She writes her own poems sometimes in Hungarian and other times in German. She herself then translates them into the other language, which often results in poetic variations. In 2017, the jury of the Peter Huchel Prize recognized her current volume of poetry as “Outstanding New Release 2016” and she was awarded the prize for it. In 2021, Kalász (together with Monika Rinck) was awarded the Erlangen Literature Prize for Poetry as a Translation for their literary translation of contemporary Hungarian literature into German.
