Paco Goyanes, who studied humanities, is a bookseller and cultural manager. He is the founder and director of Librerías Cálamo, which he founded in 1983. Cálamo organises numerous cultural activities, including the Cálamo Prize. The bookshop received the "Quality Bookshop" seal of approval, awarded by both the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sports and the French Centre National du Livre.
In 2012, he was voted one of the 50 most influential professionals in the Ibero-American book industry, according to a survey by the Fundación El Libro de Buenos Aires.
Goyanes has collaborated for years with the Guadalajara International Book Fair, the Bogotá International Book Fair and the Frankfurt Book Fair, as well as with the Hay Festival América in Spain.
Together with his partner Ana Cañellas, he runs the event for independent bookshops and publishers Otra Mirada in Latin America and Spain and Talento Editorial del Hay Festival América in Colombia. In 2022, the team organised the 5th edition of Otra Mirada and the first Barbitania Literary Festival in Barbastro, Spain.
