Axel Scheffler is among the most well-known children's book illustrators in the world. His books - from ‘The Gruffalo’ to ‘Pip and Posy’ - reach children in over a hundred languages. In October, he will be speaking at the Frankfurt Kids Conference about the responsibility of children's books in a fragile world. In this interview, he explains why kindness is not a naive idea, how subtly stories show attitude - and why his new book ‘Welcome’ aims to champion friendship and togetherness.

Creative Women Publishing is more than a publishing house - it is a movement. It was founded by seven Ukrainian women who are breaking taboos with their books, strengthening voices and creating a new reading community. The European Union Prize for Literature was awarded as part of the Foire des Livre du Bruxelles (3-7 April 2024). The prize aims to promote the diversity and visibility of the European literary scene internationally. Author Deniz Utlu was honoured with a Special Mention and spoke to us in Brussels about European reading and the potential beauty of difference.

Frankfurter Buchmesse to receive 2022 Julius Campe Prize

Frankfurter Buchmesse is the recipient of this year’s Julius Campe Prize, awarded by publisher HOFFMANN UND CAMPE. 
The prize is given to individuals and institutions that have rendered outstanding services in the fields of literary criticism and literary communication. The winner receives 99 bottles of fine wine and a facsimile of Heinrich Heine’s »Französische Zustände« (French Affairs), published by HOFFMANN UND CAMPE.
