Frankfurter Buchmesse ends with significant increase in visitors
The 71st Frankfurter Buchmesse ended today, with a significant increase in the number of visitors of 8.3 percent at the weekend and a rise of 3.7 percent on the trade visitor days. In 2019, the fair welcomed a total of 302,267 visitors, an increase of 6.0 percent compared to last year.
Press Talk: Guest of Honour Philippines unveils first wave of authors for Frankfurter Buchmesse 2025, Leipzig lineup and new German editions
As Guest of Honour at Frankfurter Buchmesse 2025, the Philippines announced its key initiatives, major programmes and activities during a press talk in Berlin today. These included new German editions of Philippine books and the initial lineup of authors set to participate in literary and cultural events at the National Stand and the Philippine Pavilion, and around Frankfurt during Frankfurter Buchmesse (15-19 October 2025). The Philippines also announced its first-ever national stand and official presence at the Leipziger Buchmesse (27-30 March 2025). Additionally, it will launch its inaugural cultural programme “Oculus”.

The world of audiobooks, podcasts and smart speakers will be represented at this year’s Frankfurter Buchmesse with its own, newly created thematic area and programme: Frankfurt Audio.
International events at Weltempfang, the 2020 LiBeraturpreis and the African Perspectives symposium
This year’s Weltempfang – Frankfurter Buchmesse’s centre for politics, literature and translation – is dedicated to the topic “Europe – Connecting Cultures”. The programme includes highly topical issues, such as the role of culture, literature and politics in the coronavirus crisis, and debates about displacement, migration and racism. The Weltempfang events will be broadcast each day of the fair at www.buchmesse.de/weltempfang and on Frankfurter Buchmesse's YouTube channel. The opening event will take place on Wednesday, 14 October at 5.30 pm, on the ARD Book Fair Stage in the Festhalle.
