Himmelweg by Juan Mayorga: Staged Reading, Book Presentation, Panel Discussion

The centrepiece of the book presentation organised by Drama Panorama – Forum für Übersetzung und Theater e.V. will be a staged reading of the play Himmelweg, widely performed across the world, by Juan Mayorga, one of the most important figures in the Spanish theatre scene. Himmelweg (2003) has now finally been translated into German for the first time (by Stefanie Gerhold) and published in the anthology Schattenschwimmer. It deals with illusion and reality, with the nature of theatre and with Theresienstadt. In this way, the play explores a topic that is equally virulent for Germany and Spain: confronting a past that cannot be overcome. The reading at the Theater Heidelberg will be followed by a panel discussion on different remembrance cultures and their comparison.
