BOOKFEST 2020 – in the city and at home worldwide

Frankfurter Buchmesse’s BOOKFEST is also being held this year as a Special Edition: all over town as BOOKFEST city, and for the first time also virtually as BOOKFEST digital. But whether live or digital – what stays the same is an outstanding live programme packed with culture, ideas and great stories.



BIGGER, BETTER, BOOKFEST! For BOOKFEST city, exciting events will be held during all five days of the fair, spread out across numerous locations all over Frankfurt. Meet fascinating artists as well as your favourite authors: at creative performances and readings, poetry slams, engaging discussions, and much, much more.

Particularly during a worldwide crisis, one thing significantly gains in importance: hope. That’s why we would like to send out signals of hope – as an alternative to a culture of outrage, defamation, and conspiracy theories. Voices of hope from literature and society will be given a digital platform to address the transformative power of new ideas.

ARD Book Fair Stage

A full programme every day: Experience the events on the ARD Buchmessenbühne via livestream live from the Festhalle. With world-class stars, authors and artists, exciting discussion rounds on current topics and lots of good entertainment. Don’t miss the ARD Buchmesse Night on Friday, 16 October 2020, which will be broadcast live nationwide by all cultural broadcasters in Germany.


What influence has COVID-19 had on the global cultural sector? How can culture remain sustainably effective in the midst of a global crisis? This year, Weltempfang, the virtual centre for politics, literature and translation, will be discussing the subject of “Europe – connecting cultures”.
