The international publishing industry and culture fans all over the world were looking forward to October this year: because Frankfurter Buchmesse was taking place! In these unique times, it was a Special Edition in Frankfurt city and, for the first time, with an extensive digital offering, which could be used free of charge worldwide from wherever you are.
Today, you can still take advantage of the programme by using the Media Library.

BOOKFEST 2020 – in the city and at home worldwide

Frankfurter Buchmesse’s BOOKFEST is also being held this year as a Special Edition: all over town as BOOKFEST city, and for the first time also virtually as BOOKFEST digital. But whether live or digital – what stays the same is an outstanding live programme packed with culture, ideas and great stories.



BIGGER, BETTER, BOOKFEST! For BOOKFEST city, exciting events will be held during all five days of the fair, spread out across numerous locations all over Frankfurt. Meet fascinating artists as well as your favourite authors: at creative performances and readings, poetry slams, engaging discussions, and much, much more.

Save the date! On 17 October 2020, the all-new BOOKFEST digital presents a unique virtual show of culture, which will be shared by fans all over the world. From Asia to Europe and all the way to America. Bring the BOOKFEST feeling home via YouTube, Facebook or the Frankfurter Buchmesse website – all free of charge.

ARD Book Fair Stage

A full programme every day: you could experience via livestream the events on the ARD Book Fair Stage from the Festhalle. With world-class stars, authors and artists, exciting discussion rounds on current topics and lots of good entertainment. The ARD Book Fair Night was broadcast live on Friday, 16 October 2020, on all of Germany’s regional cultural channels.


What influence has COVID-19 had on the global cultural sector? How can culture remain sustainably effective in the midst of a global crisis? This year, Weltempfang, the virtual centre for politics, literature and translation, was discussing the subject of “Europe – connecting cultures”.
