Bärbel Becker
Bärbel’s academic background is in American Studies and English literature – studies at Wellesley College and MA at Frankfurt University. After short stints in teaching English and translating she joined Frankfurter Buchmesse in1981. She spent 38 years with Frankfurter Buchmesse in international projects – among them publishers trainings, exchange programs, the Frankfurt Rights Meeting, German book offices as well as leading a small team promoting German books and authors at international book fairs among them many German Guest of Honor events. Publishing’s rights sellers were always at the center of her attention. She co-founded the European Network for Literary Translation. After her retirement in 2020 she consulted National Book Development Board Philippines in regard to their international capacity building activities and their preparation for Frankfurter Buchmesse.
Her volunteer work includes co-organizing a mentoring program for Bücherfrauen / Women in Publishing and supporting activities around the campaign „Frankfurt liest ein Buch“ – Frankfurt reads a book.
