Before joining Avid Reader Press, where she oversees the imprint’s fiction and memoir program, Lauren Wein spent eight years as an executive editor at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and, before that, more than a decade at Grove Atlantic. Some of the books she acquired and edited at HMH include Adrienne Brodeur’s Wild Game (one of Amazon and People’s top 10 books of the year), Lori Gottlieb’s Maybe You Should Talk to Someone (a New York Times bestseller), Rachel Kadish’s The Weight of Ink (winner of a National Jewish Book Award), Derek B. Miller’s Norwegian by Night (winner of the Dagger Award for best debut crime novel), Sarai Walker’s Dietland (basis for the AMC television series), Hala Alyan’s Salt Houses (winner of the Dayton Literary Peace Prize), and the conversation-shifting novel After Birth by Elisa Albert. At HMH, she also had the pleasure of working on Elinor Lipman’s most recent novels, On Turpentine Lane and Good Riddance, and on novels by longstanding house authors Robert Stone, Umberto Eco, and Amos Oz. Among the writers Lauren worked with at Grove are Chloe Aridjis, Patricia Engel, Francisco Goldman, Steve Hely, Stephanie Kallos, Sayed Kashua, Sofi Oksanen, and Gabrielle Zevin. Lauren graduated from Cornell University, where she studied English and biblical literature, and is a member of the Aspen Words Creative Council and Jerusalem Book Fair Committee.
